3) Results and Discussions
The visual interpretation of the satellite data was carried out for the two watersheds and the area statistics
of different categories of land use and land cover were determined. The results obtained for Melamchi and
Roshi watersheds are presented in Fig 6 and Fig 7 respectively. It is seen from Fig. 6 that forest constitutes
the major portion of both Melamchi and Roshi watersheds. Of the total area, forest occupies 45% and the
rest 55% was under non-forest category in case of Melamchi watershed. Similarly, forest constitutes 50%
of the total area and the rest 50% was under non-forest categories in Roshi watershed, as expressed in Fig.
7.
