80 Events CIVIL INSIGHT 2018 KUCEC’s Activities Reported by: Suraj Bhandari Batch 2016 Community-based “Awareness and Preparedness for Future Earthquakes” Program at Kushadevi, Kavre The Kathmandu University Civil Engineering Club memorializing the devastating Gorkha Earthquake of April 25, 2015, and with a motive of extending its approach towards the community, conducted the fi rst-ever community-based program “Awareness and Preparedness for Future Earthquakes” at Kushadevi School, Kushadevi, Panauti-3, Kavre on April 25, 2018 (Baishakh 12, 2075 B.S.). Executed on a voluntary basis, the program was targeted to facilitate the local people with information, safety measures pertaining to earthquake and resilient building practices so that the community is prepared for future quakes. It was our small step to help these people of neighboring regions of Kathmandu University. The program was carried out at the Kushadevi School premises targeting students, parents and local communities. The departmental undergraduate students conducted interaction session on Earthquake topics and earthquake drills with the people, whereas the master’s level students Er. Devendra Man Palikhe, Er. Suvekshya Shrestha and Er. Kshitiz Shrestha presented on modern construction practices and resilient structures, keeping in mind the future quakes. The event was preceded by a rally incorporating a mass around the vicinity. Faculties from the department Er. Ramesh Adhikari, Er. Vimesh Paudel and Er. Nitesh Shrestha supervised the program.
