City Services Satisfaction Survey 2003 City Services Satisfaction Survey | Page 7
Overall Rating Of Arlington And City Services
Residents give Arlington a moderately high overall rating as a place to live, in terms of
quality of life. A large majority of residents (81%) rate Arlington as either “good” or
“excellent,” while only two percent rate Arlington as “poor.” However, this rating shows
a two-year downward trend, including a significant decline over the past year.
City services in Arlington generally receive high overall ratings, with most services
receiving a top-two-box rating (“excellent” or “good”) of 80% or higher. The Arlington
Fire Department receives the highest ratings among City services, followed by libraries,
ambulance, garbage, parks, police and water services. Services receiving the lowest
ratings were street maintenance and “park and ride” locations or services (for
carpooling, vans, or regional bus connections). Other areas where residents see much
room for improvement include street sweeping, Handitran transit service, code
enforcement, and affordable housing.
Generally, overall ratings of City services were similar to previous years. One area—
code enforcement—declined significantly from 2001.
