Train Station Renovation

Almost Finished !

By the end of 2016 , the Preservation Foundation campaign had raised more than $ 70,000 , including a $ 25,000 match from the organization ’ s own funds , for a major renovation of the waiting area of the 1900 east train station . The Foundation is grateful to the 175 continuing and new donors for their generous support .
The campaign continues toward a goal of $ 122,000 ; also , with hopes of securing additional support from residents as well as a few special constituents for some remaining interior rehabilitation . The Foundation will reach out to Route 60 corridor corporations whose train-commuting employees are bussed to and from this station and also central business district employers whose staff depend on the waiting rooms in extreme cold and hot weather .
The last of the grant monies that funded mostly the remarkable exterior renovation of the Frost & Granger 117 year-old building also is paying for entirely new , expanded rest rooms in the south wing of the station . Unfortunately , this major upgrade left no resources for tackling the deteriorated 1980s interior renovation . The 1980s tile flooring proved unable to withstand the traffic , including salt tracked in during winter months . The benches show the scars of heavy use over three decades . The walls were covered over rather than repaired , including hiding the original Prairie School-related horizontal paneling .
The Foundation is proud to be able to provide leadership for this essential renewal project . To learn more about this fundraising effort visit lfpf . org .
