New Organics Recycling Program!
Beginning July 1, 2019, the City of Laguna Niguel and CR&R
Environmental Services (CR&R) introduced the Organics
Recycling Program to the residential community. The Organics
Recycling Program co-collects food scraps with yard trimmings
in the organics cart (green waste cart). This material is diverted
from landfill to CR&R’s Regional Organics Anaerobic Recovery
(ROAR) Facility in Perris, CA. The facility uses anaerobic
digestion technology to convert your food scraps and yard
trimmings into renewable natural gas and compost.
An organics decal similar to what is shown below was placed
on your organics cart lid identifying what materials can be
recycled not only from your yard but also your kitchen.
Here are some tips for using your organics cart:

Marga started teaching at senior centers
in Orange County three years ago, and
has been teaching at Sea Country Senior
and Community Center for the past year.
She is passionate about helping seniors with getting up to
date on the latest technology, saving them money, and most
importantly, keeping them safe on the internet. “Technology is
developing fast right now—these are exciting times, but these
advancements can make it difficult for seniors to catch up.”
Marga enjoys following current affairs, reading, and running
during her free time. She also enjoys researching content and
staying up to date on the latest technology for her classes.

• Start with yard trimmings such as leaves, grass clippings,
and/or straw at the bottom of your organics cart to prevent
food scraps from being trapped.
• Alternate layering of food scraps and yard trimmings will
help to keep your cart cleaner.
• Keep your organics cart dry and out of direct sunlight to
reduce odor.
You have already received or will receive a Kitchen Food Scrap
Container to collect food scraps before disposing of them in
the organics cart. The dishwasher-safe container has an odor
seal lid that interlocks with the body and a lid clasp to prevent
spills. The hinged lid has the ability to stay open at a 90
degree angle or fold all the way back for easy use.
Kitchen Food Scrap Container Tips:
• Adding a layer of newspaper on
the inside bottom of the container or
sprinkling a bit of baking soda on top will
help absorb liquids and reduce odor.
• Liquids can weaken the integrity of
your compostable bag and cause odor
so be sure to drain excess liquids off
before placing items into your kitchen
food scrap container.

of the Organics Recycling Program and
helps the State of California reach 75% diversion from the

MaryAnn Easley is an award-winning author
and educator, as well as a boutique publisher,
motivational speaker, and consultant. Her first
novel, I Am the Ice Worm, received recognition
as a Junior Library Guild Selection. Author of over 12 books of
fiction, and with nonfiction published nationally and regionally,
she was honored by the San Diego Reading Association
with an Award of Excellence. Having taught all ages from
kindergarten through graduate school, she was twice chosen
as Teacher of the Year and most recently received the 2017
Career Achievement Award from the University of Redlands.
MaryAnn lived on a boat along the California coast, taught
in villages above the Arctic Circle, and hosted poetry slams.
MaryAnn also loves her dachshund, Annie. She feels blessed
by her incredible family (4 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great
grandchildren), and faithful friends. She is a lifelong learner,
and enjoy train trips, aerobic dance, the beach, good movies,
and local art museums. MaryAnn enjoys writing poetry, articles,
and books, but she secretly wants to learn to paint redwood
trees on canvas.
