HIGHLIGHT

Honoring history with Juneteenth events
Juneteenth is an opportunity to honor history, uplift voices and foster important conversations. This year there will be three events across the community that can help do just that.
The City of Port St. Lucie will host Juneteenth: A Celebration of Unity at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center from 4-7:30 p. m. Thursday, June 19.
It will feature an exciting lineup of performances, storytelling and discussions. This free event is open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth through culture, conversation and community engagement.
The program will include captivating dance performances, a storytelling presentation and a community panel discussion.
The highlight of the evening will be a keynote speech by Dr. Wintley A. Phipps, a world-renowned vocal artist, pastor, motivational speaker and education activist.
In addition, the City is a proud sponsor of two other Juneteenth events.
The Treasure Coast Black Chamber of Commerce will present the inaugural Juneteenth 5K Run / Walk on June 14 at Clover Park, 31 Piazza Drive. The race begins at 7 a. m.
On June 20, the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County also will host the Let Freedom Ring Juneteenth Celebration. The event will take place from 6-9 p. m. at Tradition Square, 10489 SW Meeting St.
These events collectively honor the legacy of Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States, with meaningful and uplifting celebrations. For more information, visit www. cityofpsl. com / juneteenth.
