25things to do with kids before age 5 in Edmonton ......................................................... WRITTEN BY | LINDSAY MACDONALD Growing up in Edmonton I was lucky enough to experience many of these activities as a child; and now that I am a mom I am able to experience everything again! Edmonton (and area) has so many wonderful things to offer families it can be hard to keep track; here are my 25 top things to do with children under five. 1. Ride the steam train at Fort Edmonton Park. There are so many great things to explore at Fort Edmonton Park but riding the train is sure to please your little ones! www.fortedmontonpark.ca 2. Spend the day at the Valley Zoo. The zoo is home to more than 350 animals and when visiting you will often see different animals and their caregivers walking through the park. www.edmonton.ca 3. Discover the Pyramids at Muttart Conservatory. You can take a guided tour or experience the beauty of the pyramids at your own leisure. www.edmonton.ca 4. Experience Discoveryland at Telus World of Science. Discoveryland has four divisions and is designed for children from birth to around 8 years old: Tot Galaxy ( for children 3 years and under); Sky High (focusing on role-playing/dress up); Cloud Burst (Water play); and Blue Sky (creative play area). www.telusworldofscienceedmonton.ca 5. Visit the Royal Alberta Museum. www.royalalbertamuseum.ca 6. Experience nature at Elk Island National Park. There are three trails under 4 kms in length to explore as a family and if you are feeling brave there are many more trails over 4 kms. www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ab/elkisland/index. aspx 7. Paddle around Hawrelak Park pond in a paddle boat. www.edmonton.ca 8. Visit the World Waterpark at West Edmonton Mall. You can ride the waves in the wave pool or play around in the children’s area. www.wem.ca www.modernmama.com | EDMONTON | A RESOURCE GUIDE | 2014 • 09
