It is proven that many of our modern drugs have plants or their constituents as the curative base. There are so many plants that keep us healthy from vegetables and herbs to flowers and roots. Here are some that have become important to us a family and their health giving properties.

I am no doctor and would recommend you seek medical advice before using any of the treatments mentioned in this article.

They are, however, ones I have had personal experience of and have found great help from. 1. Aloe Vera

Though an African native, this plant is both easy to grow as a house plant and a wonderful healer and skin restorer.
The gel like interior of this plant in its long speckled leaves is a proven dramatic healer of wounds, burns and ulcers. It not only soothes the pain of dreaded sunburn, but heals the damage done. As a beauty product, Aloe Vera makes an excellent night treatment for tightening the skin, due to its mild astringent quality. It soothes and calms redness in the skin due to extreme weather conditions.

I have used it on my sons' teenage spots when they have become red and painful. My husband has circulatory problems so any insect bite could indeed be a problem, aloe Vera is always applied and the bite heals without problem of further breakdown.

Aloe Vera may be taken internally, as it's healing properties work on the digestive system also. It is used to aid stomach problems and is a strong laxative. The bitter yellow part of the plant which should never be applied to the skin, is used in commercially made products as a laxative.

2. Lavender
Widely used as a medicinal plant since the Middle Ages, this beautifully fragrant plant was one of the plants taken, by the Pilgrims, to the New World.
I have used lavender essential oil for many years to aid relaxation and sleep. It has become one of my favourite comfort plants, due to its fragrance. The lavender plant itself is a great garden plant, but does need some consideration in its cultivation. They don't like wet roots, so make sure they are in well drained soil.
This wonderful plant calms the body both mind and your muscles. It makes an excellent tension headache remedy, just a touch of essential oil at the temples gives relief. A couple of drops of oil added to an unperfumed body lotion or carrier oil such as sweet almond, relieves aches and pains in the muscles.
