Healthy plants
We are being reminded, almost constantly these days that the Mediterranean diet is the best for us becaue it promotes good cardiovascular health and keeps one in good health generally.
Characterized by a large number of fresh vegetables and fruit, not much red meat, plenty of chicken, fish (lots of fish!) olive oil, wine and cheese combined with an outdoor lifestyle make this diet the best you can get - so they say.
It is true that plants are the most wonderful things to eat, and you don't need to be a vegetarian to enjoy them, but the key thing here is fresh, the word fresh, meaning as it does, something just picked.
During the Second World War the UK was said to be on its knees, foodwise, but actually the opposite is true. We were never better fed as a nation. Fresh vegetables were mostly grown in gardens and on allotments and eaten within minutes of picking. That's fresh!
Even the greenest supermarkets cannot match the quality of fresh vegetables produced in your own garden, and more than anything else, you get slowly fitter growing them at the same time.
And they needn't be exotic or fancy, simple fresh vegetables we all know and love are ideal for perfect healthy hearts and bodies.
