Girl Scouts of Citrus launched an out of this world program last summer with SpaceKids Global . The joint initiative blasted off with a three-part challenge that engaged girls from around the country in creative writing , art and science .
This unique collaboration was the result of two future astronauts sharing their passion for space . Sharon Hagle , Founder of SpaceKids Global and a former Girl Scout , together with Maryann Barry , CEO of Girl Scouts of Citrus , created the Making Space for Girls challenge to spark girls ’ interest in science . They knew they had a winning combination to reach Girl Scouts around the country . The challenge ended in October with 680 girls participating from 46 states , two territories , and two countries . Girls from 95 Girl Scout Councils took part in the challenge .
“ I want girls to become engaged and embrace science and its many facets and make our world so much safer and better . This is an amazing opportunity intended to inspire girls to take that first step ”, said Sharon Hagle .
In August 2021 , the challenge ’ s winning science experiments will be sent to the International Space Station ( ISS ), safely housed in a Faraday box . Space in the
