On Sunday , February 12 , 2017 , eleven 8th Grade girls from Troop 1957 started a tradition of their own by continuing the legacy of the Luv2Run 5K .
This event was started five years ago by Troop 4082 as a Silver Award project . Many of the girls from Troop 4082 have since graduated from high school , but didn ’ t want their event to end .
The graduating Girl Scouts lovingly selected Troop 1957 to carry the torch in leading the 6th Annual Luv2Run 5K event , achieving one of the key goals of a highest award project : sustainability .
For the past year , this group of girls and their adult supporters have lived up to the call of Troop 4082 .
The event was held at the Oviedo Mall with 381 registrants , the highest number of racers to date . Girls took the lead to learn about project management , event planning , marketing , public relations , community involvement , and budgeting .
Now , as the girls of Troop 1957 move into high school , they ' re setting their sights on continuing the tradition and growing the event in 2018 ( and have already set a date ! Mark your calendars for Sunday , February 11 , 2018 - good planning , right ?!).
