It didn ' t take long for members of Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne to realize that Sunday March 12 , 2017 was not an ordinary church service .
Girl Scouts greeted parishioners as they entered the church . Dozens of girls wore vests and sashes in place of traditional church attire . Girls sat together , led readings for the entire congregation , and worked the soundboard .
It was Girl Scout Sunday .
Thanks to the commitment of the girls ' families and assistance from Girl Scouts and volunteers of Troop 1978 , the church celebrated the 105th birthday of Girl Scouts with more than 80 Girl Scouts and their family members in attendance .
