What would YOU do? (A story told from different points of view)

Fernández Ivern, Mariana

I started teasing him and shouting things like “Your

head is on fire!”, “Don’t burn the school down!”, and I put on a red hat. All my friends started laughing. Then, we all went home feeling like winners.

When I arrived home and saw my brother, I noticed something different about him. He had dyed his hair. He was red-haired now! I started yelling at him because I was confused. He didn't say anything and ignored me. I felt that I was the brother of a freak, so I was scared my friends would leave me because of my brother and his hair.

The day after that, I was walking through the schoolyard looking for the red-head when I saw him getting his bike to go home. I was angry and wanted to take it out on him. While I was putting on my red hat, I saw my brother sitting nearby with his friends. I will never forget his look of disappointment. It made me think… Why is it bad to be different? I had never considered this kid´s feelings, I realized that I was hurting him.

After a couple of days I decided I would be a carrot-top too. Now there are three red-haired boys at school. I don't care if people bother me, I have new friends and they respect me for who I am.
