Human rights at war
Tymostchuk, Tamara.
Rationale
To work for the project RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP we worked on how human rights are infringed at times of war. Sometimes it is when we lose what we have that we value it most.
We first saw a movie called The boy in the striped pyjamas, which is about a kid who lived near a concentration camp during WW2. We wrote fiction letters and diary entries from the characters’ points of view. Finally, we wrote our own opinions and reflections about war.
Secondly, we read a short story that takes place in South Africa during the Apartheid in 1960, One day, Lily, One Day. It is about a little girl whose family think differently and they defend the natives’ rights. Then in groups we wrote a sequel to the story, from the time that Mandela became president of South Africa.
