Human rights at war

Rojo, Inés.

At twilight, I saw an enemy convoy entering down the street. It took me by surprise. I was paralyzed and didn´t know what to do. A really strong noise made me come back; it was another sniper on the opposite building shooting against me so I started firing back. It was me or him, my life or his.

Suddenly, the enemy convoy joined the fight and shot too. I was hurt, and they were winning the round. I didn´t know how to react, so I made the cap-trick, that dad had taught me. It worked.

Then I saw the sniper reloading, it was the perfect chance to eliminate my target. I took my rifle, I had a long breath and I shot. I hit the enemy, the enemy sniper rolled from the roof down into the street. I had to take a decision, to go down and see who the enemy was. It was when I saw the corpse face that I realized I had done a terrible thing. The worst thing a human being can go through: killing your own brother.

Sorry mom, it was John. I still regret having joined this Civil War. We are all killing our brothers…

I just wanted to tell you the truth.
