PUBLISHER’S WORD Golden age M aybe I’m just generally more optimistic now that the weather is warming up here in Sydney but I really feel that the business events industry is entering a golden age. Things looked a little rocky for a while post GFC but those days seem well behind us. Numbers are up across the board and bureaux across Australia are posting record years. Adelaide’s massive infrastructure splurge is paying dividends with the Adelaide Convention Bureau knocking it out of the park this year marking their best result in 42 years. The Gold Coast is also reporting boom times, as is Tropical North Queensland. Beyond the impressive results of our bureaux nation-wide lies the solid investment in our meetings infrastructure which is set to reap major dividends over the next decade. Finally thanks to many years of behind the scenes lobbying, government both on a state and federal level is taking notice of the benefits of the overall visitor economy, of which ours is such a valuable piece. It’s no time for complacency, but there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging how far we have come. Bring on summer.
