Association meetings getting smaller

International association meetings are quickly growing in number , but are generally getting smaller , according to the latest data by International Congress and Convention Association ( ICCA ).
The data ranks countries and cities by the estimated number of participants to international association meetings in 2016 . Vienna , ranked second by the number of meetings , came in first in the city ranking with an estimated total of almost 120,000 participants attending its 186 association meetings in 2016 . Seoul , which is only 10 th in the ranking by number of meetings , is second with almost 105,000 participants . Barcelona , like in the ranking by number of meetings , ranks third with close to 100,000 participants , closely followed by Copenhagen , which is 14 th in the ranking by number of meetings . London came in fifth place , followed by Amsterdam , Paris , Rome , Beijing and Singapore .
The data reveals both Seoul and Copenhagen host relatively large meetings on average , meanwhile Paris , while it is number one in the ranking by the number of meetings , hosts smaller meetings with an average of almost 76,000 participants .
The top three countries by estimated total number of participants is the same as the ranking by number of meetings ; USA is first with 400,000 participants , Germany is second with 280,000 participants and the UK is third with 230,000 participants . Italy takes fourth place , following by Spain , Japan , France , China , Korea and Netherlands .
While the total number of meetings has grown by 100 per cent in a decade , the total number of participants has grown just 25 per cent , with approximately five million participants worldwide in 2016 . The average number of participants to an international association meeting has decreased from 672 in 2006 to 404 in 2016 .

PCB announces Aspire Awards

The Perth Convention Bureau ( PCB ) Aspire Program 2017 culminated with the Aspire Awards Ceremony , where 10 individuals took home awards . The City of Perth Convention Scholarship was awarded to Rebecca Tolstoy , chair of the Path of Hope Foundation , which provides assistance to women who are vulnerable to domestic violence . The scholarship will assist with travel to the Rotary International Conference 2017 in the US , with the ultimate mission of securing a significant conference for Perth .
Other winners include : Caroline Nilson ( Murdoch University ) winner of the City of Mandurah Convention Scholarship ; Simon
Allen ( Shark Bay Dolphin Research Alliance – The University of Western Australia ) winner of Giving West Scholarship ; Shelley Gorman ( Telethon Kids Institute ) winner of the Telethon Kids Institute Conference Award ; and Wilson Casado ( Visagio Australia ) winner of the inaugural Australian Institute of Management WA Conference Award .
The University Professional Development Award Winners were Tracey Lee Edwards and Karen McDavitt ( Edith Cowan University ), Margaret Sealey ( Murdoch University ), Brock Delfante ( The University of Western Australia ), and Katarina Miljkovic ( Curtin University ).

New faces on EEAA board

The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia ’ s ( EEAA ) new Board has been announced with a stable core of reappointed directors and two new directors representing association organisers and suppliers . New faces include Felicity Zadro , founder and managing director of Zadro , and Ross Ferrar , CEO of Gaming Technologies Association .
EEAA chief executive Joyce DiMascio said the Association was in sound shape and the 2017 Board would provide great stability to an already robust Association plus an infusion of new competencies with its two new Directors .
“ We thank Richard Hogan of Australian Gift and Homewares Association for his service over the past two years and Bob Moore of Agility Fairs and Events , who retired in March , for his many years of service to the EEAA ,” she said .
