Juliana’s Guacamole
I learned this recipe for guacamole as a child in the kitchen of my mother’s friend Sharon. I played with her daughters and my sister, but was very eager to help out. I remember Sharon and my mother Silvia squeezing the lime and mincing the garlic, Bob Marley
playing on the tape deck. It was our favorite snack with tortilla chips on a summer day in
the country. I love the way this simple recipe lets the avocado speak for itself. Deliciosa!
2 ripe avocados
1 lime
2 tsp minced garlic (1-2 cloves)
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp fresh ground pepper
¼ tsp cumin
1-2 dashes of cayenne
2 Tbs fresh chopped cilantro (or to taste)
Mash the avocados in a bowl with the
fresh lime juice. Once combined, mash in
the garlic. Stir in the spices and cilantro to
taste. Let the guacamole sit 10 minutes
before serving to let the flavors combine.
Serve on anything, from salads to burritos
to grilled meat, or enjoy this creamy dip
on chips. ■
