Black Eskimo describes their sound as “Neo-Trip Hop straight out of New Hampshire.” With influences such as Portishead, Massive Attack, Erykah Badu, Wu Tang Clan, and Mos Def, Black Eskimo has a unique sound that is hard to describe. Uplift is Black Eskimo’s first outdoor music festival. Chavez and Valentin are “totally excited” and are even hoping to welcome some special guests onto their stage. Morya Nolan, their friend and fellow vocalist, will also be joining Black Eskimo to harmonize with Chavez. Besides adding new bands to the lineup to mix it up, Uplift will welcome back some equally exciting acts. Roots of Creation will be back again to their hometown festival to play a special acoustic show, their only one of the summer, at Uplift. Rockers Hug the Dog, Ol’ Factory, and Ghost Dinner Band will all be returning, as well as the first ever headliner, ADEEM will be back to perform on Uplift’s stage with his live backing band. The Peterborough Jug Stompers which is a bluegrass/jug band collective that meets at Harlow’s pub for an open jam every Thursday and the funky blues of Great Groove Theory, will also be a part of the lineup. So if you are wondering what to do in New Hampshire on July 26th, consider attending Uplift Music Festival. Uplift is entirely volunteer run, so the festival has been able to stay affordable. It’s even harder to resist when knowing that your money is going to a cause as worthy as Grapevine. It is rare to find a festival that the community stands behind as much as the Monadnock Region does for Uplift (upliftmusicfest.org). Chadinha proudly said, “It just shows what a strong, loving community connection we have.” Adeem July• 2014 cidermag.com • CIDER MAG • 7
