Cider’s advice column lets you into the mind of the most interesting man in OUR world. Is it good or bad? I've notice a lot of so called "shit talking" and rivalry among business owners in my hometown of Brattleboro. You go to one bar, and can almost bank on the fact that the owners/managers will be talking badly about another business down the road. I know they are all fighting for the same piece of pie.. but isn't there a better way to solve the problem or is it simply the fans fault for not coming out and supporting everyone?" signed.. Need to find out what John Jamison would do? email [email protected] subj: WWJJD and ask your question.. now. Tired of Listening Having lived in Brattleboro for many years I have noticed one thing. It is hard to get people out of their houses to do anything! There could be an amazing show/performance going on and there will be only a handful of people that care to show up. This is not across the board but I find it true more often than not. But wait! If we walk a bunch of cows down the road and watch them shit in the street a thousand people will show up to cheer. (No offense to S.O.T.H. *The opinions expressed in this article are not necessarily those of Cider Mag....but they are probably close) What I mean to say is that there is there is a lack of community among the business owners downtown as well as a solid community of people who support the arts. As of a week ago we lost our only legit music venue, Barnabys, and now there is no Dear Tired of listening where else to play music except Head Room Stages! I like head Room but one venue for a whole town of artistic people is absurd. As the fellas at Barnabys were closing their bar and asking for support that place should have been packed! But the Brattleboro homebodies struck again and there were only a hand full of us there to wish them a saddened and fond farewell. So the answer to your M question is simple yet challenging to some. We cannot control the "shit remin talking" among businesses. That is DRIN not our business to worry about. All we can do is buck up, get our asses off the couch (or where else they may be) and go and support these local venues, bands, music magazines, restaurants, bars, artists, performers, food trucks, food carts and coffee shops before they all dry up and Brattleboro becomes a cooler yet more dessicated version of Bennington where all that is left is the Christian Science Reading Room and the sex shop. Because we all know sex and religion sells better than a kick ass live band on a Friday night! WWW.CIDERMAG.COM John Jamison
