Universal Languages
Wherever you go around the world you can hear music. Even if you can’t understand the words you can still dance. Upbeat music makes you smile and sad music makes you feel down. What ever language you speak this is true. And when you smile anyone around can understand that you are happy. Music and emotions are universal languages.
Do you have a favorite song? If you do, do you smile or sing when you hear it? Anywhere in the world someone could be listening to the same song and they could be smiling. Seeing someone cry makes you wonder. It does not matter if you could understand them, if you could see them crying you would know something was wrong. Being able to both smile at the same song, or being able to tell something is wrong is understanding each other without words. Art can also help use communicate without words. Any art piece has a story. This story is told to who ever looks at it without even having to make a single sound. For example Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. Anyone can see a different story. This painting is famous all over the world. This painting would not be as famous if people had not liked the story it told to them.
When you look at the painting what story do you think Vincent Van Gogh was trying to tell? Different people see different stories. But if you could see any story it did not matter that Vincent Van Gogh only learned to speak English latter in his life or even if he had never spoken English, you would still see a story.
Art, emotions, and music are universal languages. They are ways to understand and communicate without words. Learning how to understand these ways to communicate is learning to speak without words.
