lastcourse en plein air
Sentinels Photographed in situ to reflect Marianne Thompson’ s en plein air approach, Sentinels is an oil-on-canvas painting inspired by trees along her island path at Lake Of the Woods, Ontario. The white pine, balsam, spruce and cedar are among the few that have endured years of flooding, drought, disease and insect damage. Portrayed with richly detailed bark, lichen and woodpecker markings, these forest survivors stand as a tribute to the resilience of the forest. Find it and other works at Warehouse Artworks.
Marianne Thompson
Marianne Thompson’ s expressive landscapes are rooted in a lifelong connection to the Canadian wilderness. She began painting at age twelve at the John Smith School of Art in Toronto, where she developed a strong foundation in oil painting and colour. Now spending much of the year at Lake of the Woods, Thompson paints exclusively en plein air, using a vibrant palette-knife technique to capture the energy and spirit of the land she knows so intimately. Her award-winning work has earned recognition across Canada and the United States, and is held in both private and public collections.
