6 . Cycle the Blue Highway
Bike The Blue Highway , a crafted mountain bike route - renowned for its variegated terrain winding through Eastern Manitoba ’ s Canadian Shield - and you are among the region ’ s most avid mountain bike enthusiasts . This out and back looped trail , entered via the Centennial Trail , starts with a short climb to get to the granite rock face . Set wheels down , and you are peddling mostly over expansive open rock connected by single dirt tracks for an exciting , and challenging adrenaline ride . Throughout the scenic trail there are a few challenging air drops , adding heart pumping thrills to the nature ride . These parts have ride arounds too . Well maintained wooden bridges , blue painted rocks and cairns marking the route , as well as signage throughout the trail make for easy navigation . The 8.5 km route takes an hour and a half or longer with stops to enjoy the scenery .
Local Tip :
The lookout area after the lollipop loop provides a gorgeous view of McGillivray Lake worth breaking for . Be treated to a wood wall ride on the 10-minute connecting stretch from Caddy Lake . This rocky trail is slippery when wet and particularly challenging .
