As autumn settles in,
Manitoba’ s rural communities open their doors for a long-standing harvest time tradition: the fall supper. These one-night-only feasts, much like today’ s trendy pop-up dining events, bring people together for a fundraising communal celebration of homegrown food. Hosted in local churches and community halls, the spread typically features turkey, meatballs, perogies, and, of course, homemade pies— dishes reflecting Manitoba’ s cultural heritage.
These suppers go beyond simple nostalgia. They’ re a true farm-to-table experience, with meals rooted in the tradition of eating local food long before it became a trend. Fresh vegetables, locally raised meats, and scratch-made fare— this is wholesome eating at its finest, and it’ s been a way of life in rural Manitoba for generations.
Attending a fall supper is an experience unlike any other. It’ s a chance to slow down, enjoy a hearty meal, and share a table with neighbours. Fall suppers remind us to cherish our land, community and loved ones.
