“WOW FACTOR”

Contracting reimagines a tight dark galley
into a kitchen bursting with light and character.
Rejigging the layout of the exterior wall unlocked
options to improve flow while still maintaining
the integrity of this century-old River Heights
home. The back door was relocated, and two
small windows were replaced with a large
one, bringing in plenty of natural light in the
afternoon. Glassy topaz tile, chessboard diner
f looring and ornamental tin makes the overall
space whimsical and wonderful. White cabinetry
gives some breathing room between textures,
allowing each pattern to stand out. A peninsula
cleverly maximizes counterspace. It provides extra
workspace in an area too tight for an island, and
bar seating opposite makes a great spot for puzzling
over crosswords with a morning coffee.
