T personally. Twenty years ago when launching Ciao! it was our mission to draw attention to the food being produced in our own province. As someone who grew up in a farming region, I always had a connection to what was grown nearby and the food we ate. Over the years a great number of stories have been shared about Manitoba made products and their makers. However, none have hit home quite as literally as this issue’ s subject of Food Sources. Carly Minish, and her Smak Dab mustards are from Swan River, my home town. If there are Ciao! readers that still haven’ t tried Carly’ s condiment line, now is the time. Another woman charting a path of success is featured inthekitchen. Chef Jackie Hildebrand, of Hy’ s Steakhouse is making her mark on one of Canada’ s most revered restaurants simply by following her passion and keeping her eyes on the prize. On the subject of prize, the results of Ciao!’ s annual Kitchen Design Competition presented by Steinbach Credit Union are in! This contest once again confirms that creativity shines in Winnipeg homes. All of the kitchens featured on the pages of this issue are true stunners, and we fell in love with each one. This year’ s grand prize winner will be treated to a gourmet meal cooked by Chef Megan Davis of Nicolino’ s. Plaids are making a comeback and ciao! fashion reveals our favourites found in local stores. Lastbite features a glimpse of movie making as we catch up to producer( writer, composer) Danny Schur on set filming Strike!
