rolling hills near the Canada-US border, take the Turtle’ s Back Trail to the peak of one of the province’ s rare elevated spots.
Turtle’ s Back Summit is the region’ s highest point, used for navigation for thousands of years.
The trail winds through forest and around pristine William Lake, passing through pasture area where hikers can see local cattle grazing lazily. Steel yourself for the final leg of the hike, which is a steep climb up to the summit.
Reaching the top makes leg cramps worth it with a stunning view of the park and southwest Manitoba, stretching from the small town of Boissevain to the border-straddling International Peace Gardens.

FortWhyte Alive offers a respite from the bustling city without leaving the city limits. This educational centre for nature lovers promotes conservation through intriguing interactive exhibits.
7 km of trails for hikers and bikers through forest and tall grass prairie on wood chipped and limestone trails provide a peaceful place to step away from it all. Connections can be made to other forest paths like the Assiniboine Forest trail and Harte Trail, which wind through the forested depths of the city’ s largest park.
Those looking for a more leisurely stroll can follow FortWhyte’ s floating boardwalk, which weaves its way through the nearby marsh.
