❚ cantina culture
Latin music, lively dance performances, and a festive atmosphere are turning up the heat at Blue Donkey, the Mexican cantina that made its bold debut in Osborne Village last month. Already embracing patio season, the newcomer is keeping it festive with rotating daily features, from Taco & Tequila Tuesdays to Fuego Fridays. Taking over the former Shakti storefront( the boutique relocated to the Exchange District last fall), Blue Donkey transforms the space into a vibrant escape inspired by the easygoing feel of a coastal Mexican cantina. Rustic wood finishes, colourful details, and a laid back atmosphere invite guests to settle in for cocktails, shareable bites, and an evening that has a habit of gathering momentum. The menu covers the expected favourites; beef, chicken, and fish tacos, quesadillas, chips and dip, and churros, but the setting is clearly the headliner. Judging from the energetic crowd, this new Osborne Village hang-out is making a play to become one of Winnipeg’ s coolest go-to spots after dark. 194 Osborne St, 204-306-2583
