publisher’s note
T
his magazine exists to cele-
brate local flavour. It spotlights
stars in our community, places and
people making the city better for
us to live a more enriched life.
Recent days leading to the press
date for this issue have been at once
heartbreaking and heartwarming
as we see the city we love face an
overwhelming and unprecedented
world health crisis. We are seeing
swift and thoughtful responses
from our health practitioners,
educators, and industry leaders.
Small businesses with delicate
infrastructures have been among
the first to demonstrate their com-
mitment to community well being.
Professional food and health
safety procedures, already stringent
for restaurants, have been kicked
into overdrive. Dining rooms have
revised seating plans to heed social
distancing advice, and amenities are
being added by many businesses,
making it possible to order online,
pick up product curb side and
receive delivery. Others have closed,
eliminating close contact situations.
The scene and story will change,
undoubtedly many times before
this magazine drops and in the
coming months. Emotions will run
the gamut but I believe we can count
on a Winnipeg we’ll be proud of.
Preparing this issue has given us
the opportunity to enjoy many local
spots, some new and some longtime
favourites. We hope reading the
stories of passionate Winnipeggers
will inspire you. Continue to support
local places you can, and keep your
copy as a reminder of
places to visit down the
road. Live well. We
are strong and
this shall pass!
