ciao! cooks recipes revisited

A vast collection of recipes from the city’ s top restaurants have been shared with Ciao! over 30 years. While some of the places have since closed, they live on forever in our memories. Here are a couple sweet delights from our archives to inspire some kitchen adventures and indulgent bites.

The Chocolate Shop, established in 1918, famously held historic record as Winnipeg’ s oldest and longest running restaurant and nook for nostalgic tarot card reading until it closed its doors in 2011. Chef and Patal Vocational instructor, Robert Duehmig shared the recipe for the iconic institution’ s signature chocolate cake in April, 2007.
