Each issue of Ciao ! celebrates local flavour .
Spotlighting the city ’ s vibrant food scene and the creative ways Winnipeg ’ s food professionals bring good eats to the city is always a joy . However , truth told , this annual Chocolate Issue holds a special place in our hearts at Ciao ! H . Q . We are all bananas for chocolate , and this issue gives us the green light to fix our attention on the city ’ s delectable chocolate creations .
This time we went behind the scenes with chef Amber Lee of Snow and Moon Dessert Café . She and her brother David are bringing a little piece of Korean culture to Winnipeg , with a spin . See the showy display of desserts that use sweet , shaved snow starting on page 10 of inthekitchen .
Our choco it list aims to add variety to your grab and go cravings , whether yearnings are for dark or lighter chocolate . We cracked open dozens of colourful packages , lining specialty food store shelves and tasted many for the first time . See ciao ! chocolate for a wrap on the sweet treats that we are most enamored with on page 18 . Take a food tour of your own ! The city ’ s specialty food boutiques are cultural gems and a sweetly satisfying way to taste the flavours of the world right here at home .
Our chocolate theme ends with a lastcourse playfully saluting chocolate sundaes . Everyone needs a sensational chocolate sauce to perk up a simple dessert , a go-to recipe that is reliable and impresses . This one hits
firstword loco for cocoa
the mark ! It is not as sweet as most and infuses spicy and bitter to its sweetness .
With so many chocolate treats tempting readers on these pages , it is fortunate that April marks Ciao ! ChocolateFest . Eateries of all types are calling on chocoholics to try their creations throughout the month . Their featured chocolate desserts reflect the city ’ s creativity . See the delectables offered on pages 8 and 9 with more chocolate choices at these establishments displayed on ciaowinnipeg . com . Ciao ! hounds are encouraged to submit photos of their favourite dishes that will be shared with Ciao ! facebook and Instagram followers .
This issue also launches our annual search for the best kitchen in the city with the Ciao ! Kitchen Design Competition . Each year the entries continue to dazzle . They also reveal a high quality of excellence found in design and craftsmanship found in this city . If you have a kitchen that has been recently renovated and you are excited about showing it off to Ciao ! readers , now is your chance . We have lined up Chef Wayne Martin of Capital Grill to cook a dinner party for six in your new cucina . We will also photograph the winning kitchen to feature it as the center piece of our October / November issue . So ask yourself , do you own Winnipeg ’ s best kitchen .? If so , visit www . ciaowinnipeg . com to enter . The deadline for entries is July 15 , 2023 . If you love your recent renovation , this contest is for you . And it could mean learning a few tricks of the trade from a master of cuisine !
