As styles change, evolve and grow over time, it’s easy to see how fashion often pulls from the past to create trends for the future. Lately fashion is drawing inspiration from classic looks of the 20th century. Prairie floral from the 60s, bold geometric patterns from the 70s, printed jeans and bomber jackets from the 80s… Almost everything we wear in style today has been seen before in some variation or another.

With the growing popularity of vintage clothing, what better store to shop at then your local Goodwill? Sure some days are more rewarding than others, but shopping at thrift stores is a great way to find authentic, one-of-a-kind retro fashion. For example, this past month we found a teal dress suit complete with shoulder pads and silk collar for $10. You might think it’s a little outdated, but this look is coming back. The other great thing about this outfit is how you can wear the dress and blazer separately or together. Pair the dress with a black blazer or wear the blazer with pants and a blouse. There are so many possibilities and you only spent $10.

Our other Thrift Shop Find was a pair of suede, sea-foam green shoes. The heel is only an inch and a half high so you don’t feel like you will break your ankle, but you still get that very satisfying click when you walk. The color and the pointed toe also make this shoe look very Victorian; a flash back a bit further than the 1900s but still very much in style.

THRIFT SHOP TIP FROM ME TO YOU: This month is the perfect time to find that tacky Christmas sweater to store in your closet till next year. People are spring cleaning and donating clothes they don’t think they will wear again. Because it’s April, Christmas is the last thing on their minds. You can easily find that horrendous sweater you know will be a hit next December and store it in the back of your closet until the opportune moment.*
