Friday Evening Speaker

Dr. Brian Kaylor

Dr. Brian Kaylor, Churchnet's

Communications & Engagement

Leader, spoke during Friday evening's

worship session. Here are a few of his

remarks as captured on Churchnet's

Twitter feed:

“We must be people who see. We

must be people who see the colors

that others can’t—or won’t—see.”

"When Jesus healed all those blind

people not a one them ended up able

to see things but still colorblind."

"We don’t live in a post-Christian

society. But I hope we still live in

pre-Christian one."

"Like Clarence Jordan, we must be people who tell stories that help others see colors they haven’t seen before." ... In the Cotton Patch Gospel, "Jordan updates the script to once again make the story surprising and subversive."

"Too often we strip away biblical tales of justice, peace, and reconciliation to create a naked, overly-spiritualized gospel. ... Pie-in-the-sky theology shouldn’t be confused with the holistic gospel message of justice preached by Jesus and the prophets."

As we see in Ferguson, "injustice thrives at systemic levels. Colorblindness makes us blind to such systemic sins. ... If we truly read the Bible, that can be a dangerous thing."
