Recognizing the Recovery Community
As we approach National Recovery Month, numerous friends, families and communities prepare to
honor those who are in recovery, those who have overcome immense mental health and substance
abuse struggles, and those who chose to commit themselves to better overall health.
This September, Recovery Month will be in its 25th year, celebrating those individuals who, despite
their mental illnesses and substance abuse issues, are successfully living healthy and productive
lives, as well as their friends, families, and professionals who support their recovery efforts. ADAMH
(Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health) is humbled by these incredible journeys and celebrates Recovery
Month and the positive impact it has on our community.
Recovery is not always easy. For some, recovery may be an indescribable journey full of selfdiscovery and acceptance, while others may feel as though it is a long, painful path full of hardships.
However, recovery in itself is an amazing accomplishment to be proud of. With the support of
friends, family, faith communities and community prevention/treatment services, treatment can work
and recovery can happen.
