Encountering challenges has been the norm for most staff, including administrative assistant Lu Burris. Burris, especially busy with the move and with packing, has been a huge help to the students and staff. Her focus has been planning and providing support for Mr. Bohan and the workers.
“I’ve been busy with extra meetings I have had to attend, extra boxing up of materials, and just being there to support Mr.Bohan and the workers,” said Burris when asked about the remodel.
But don’t get her wrong. She’s looking forward to a new space. What has her attention most? “Everything. New office furniture, new lighting, new lounge... Literally everything."
A big part of the workload fell upon the able shoulders of the custodial staff who have done their jobs admirably even through the remodel. They have had to help the workers in addition to their regular jobs, moving furniture and other supplies to and from Community to the School for the Blind.
“We’ve been helping teachers move their equipment to other areas of the building and being extra careful about garbage build up,” Patty Iverson, custodian at Community High School, said about the extra work they have been doing since the remodel.
Even though not a part of Community's staff, the custodians have made themselves available, helping do whatever needs to be done. Patti Iverson, custodial staff, sasy they see the importance of up-to-date spaces and are looking forward to modernizing the old part of the building.
“I’m excited to get more modern equipment in here as everything is very old. It will help things run more efficiently,” said Iverson when asked about the thing she is most excited for when the remodel is completed.
A resource that has proved invaluable to the student time and time again are the para teachers at Community High School. In addition to helping students, they've helped staff pack up rooms and get organized during the move.
Despite the remodel and all of the moving around, the support staff continue to do their jobs well, which is why they are super supportive.
