Our principal’s world is turned around. This last block is crazy for everyone. Teachers and students have to be relocated so they can finish the year. Someone has to find temporary classrooms for the students. Someone has to make all these changes and plans for the school. That someone is Terry Bohan.
Bohan, principal of Community High School, is the man with the plan. He keeps in touch with all of the teachers, construction workers, students, and with the district office of Grand Forks Public Schools.
“I definitely make sure that I communicate with the staff members. I have to communicate with the other public schools and the district office.” He informs them of the construction's progress and how the students are doing as far as learning and teaching goes.
Even though the entire school is a construction zone, school’s still in progress. Bohan has to make sure that happens. He still has his regular principal duties in addition to the
extra stressful work he has to do now, too.
“The moving part can be very stressful. Right now we are in our current school, some have already moved over to the School for the Blind. All items needed to be labeled and stored. Some of the items are in the storage facility and at the ed center. I am trying to coordinate all the people.” This is a lot of extra work that Bohan has to endure.
The fact that Bohan can stay so calm and have a positive attitude is incredible. He tells everyone that it will be okay; the students of CHS still have to keep moving forward and graduate just like usual.
But the principal does make a person wonder if he is really calm and positive on the inside. Even Bohan admits, “It’s a stressful challenge. There will be logistical problems. It’s like building a plane while flying it.”
