Why isn't there a white history month? We have Black History month and Hispanic Heritage Month, and Chinese New Year has been added to the school calendar and we practically owe everything to white people! Thanks to them we have Christianity in every corner of the world, countries at war with each other and a civilized world! White people have clearly contributed to the way the world is today. Ok, so back to my question, why isn't there a white history month? Well, white influence is celebrated every day in the United States.

Whiteness is seen in the media such as television shows that uphold American ideals. The white nuclear American family is a staple in living rooms across this country. Television shows such as ABC 7 and TLC have shows like The Bachelor, Sister Wives and 19 Kids and Counting that celebrate themes that would be seen as barbaric and sexist if committed in other countries. These shows are the epitome of white privilege. If committed by white people it is alright and broadcasted. By others, it is barbaric and doesn't have western ideals. Not only does the US celebrate hypocritical ideals but it excludes people of color. Only recently have families of color appeared on American television. A lot of these shows still have a tacky whitewashed taste to them. It is as if white American ideals are just rules to live by. And what's wrong with that? They're still American families! Yes, but the lack of representation of people of color and their culture is what is wrong.

America was built on the backs of people of color, namely black people. Since the arrival of Europeans on the shores of North America, world conquest for white pride has plundered civilizations created by people of color.

America was built on the backs of people of color, namely black people. Since the arrival of Europeans on the shores of North America, world conquest for white pride has plundered civilizations created by people of color. The progress and culture created by these societies have been recreated and erased with the introduction white culture. Native American culture is hardly talked about and is probably only remembered when Columbus Day rolls around.

Years has passed since the abolition of slavery and America still feels the effect of it. This is played out everyday on the nightly news. New Jim Crow Laws, mass incarceration of Black people and the war on drugs have gotten black men shot, strangled and thrown in jail all for petty crime while white men rape, shoot up churches and schools and earn sympathy for their so called mental illness and get to pay their way out of the system and continue to live their privileged lives.

Black is the race America is most prejudice against- as seen in colorism, the legal system, and career opportunities for black people. To combat this, self love was created for Black people. Black pride first appeared in the sixties in response to racism during the civil rights movement. But other people including POC would argue that white pride is the same as Black pride. The only thing these two share is pride for one's race. However, white pride does not have the same meaning as Black pride. White pride takes pride in their white skin and historical accomplishments which include the colonization of civilizations, nearly exterminating indigenous people and forcing the heathen world to heel with Christianity to fuel their conquest. “Whiteness is an artificial sociological construct which has been used throughout history to exclude certain groups of people from the rights guaranteed others and to justify bigoted attitudes.” ( Rozsa) Black pride celebrates other POC cultures while upholding their pride for their pride they other empower other POC “And, in the context of a history of white supremacy and current racial inequities, claiming power for people of color of all kinds is a statement of an aspiration for equity, not supremacy.” (Nakagawa) Other people might also argue that white people do not have a culture or say that white culture is Starbucks and Uggs. As funny as it is to laugh at, white people do have a culture. They can trace their origins to Europe and celebrate their European heritage.
