“The real voyage of discovery
consists not in seeking new
landscapes, but in having
new eyes.”
It’s a rush, it’s an energy. The
thrill starts the minute I landed. Trav-
elling has been something so person-
al to me. Wherever I’m at a new place,
that exhilarating feeling of discovering
the unknown is what home is to me. It’s
that place where I get to challenge my-
self, experience something unfamiliar
and leave with new skills or knowledge.
It’s that place where I get to build my
confidence and coming back with dif-
ferent notions and possibilities.
I realised that there’s no one
way to live life. Meeting people from
other places showed me that the world
view isn’t the same for everyone. Step-
ping into foreign lands can unveil a re-
freshing feeling – I feel alive with all my
senses awaken. The brain works harder
to make sense out of the unordinary,
5
and the heart gain a deep sense of satis-
faction of life and what it means.
I’ll always feel a sense of pride
(and joy) when successfully conquered
a fresh territory. During times of travel-
ling is when I found out that I’m quite a
resourceful person after all. For exam-
ple, when l find my way around a busy
city or ordering a meal when I don’t
speak the language. It goes to show that
cross-cultural encounter doesn’t limit
my capability, but allowing it to evolve.
Above all, travel is the perfect
catalyst for happiness, as it has allowed
me to experience the natural, cultural
and man-made wonders of the world. In
my book, travel is the best school there
is: I’ve learned so much about the world
and, most importantly, about myself.
