The nVent Hoffman brand includes steel, stainless steel and non- metallic enclosures, modular enclosure solutions, and indus- trial cooling systems. 6 chromohomes w November 2018 In Spotlight India’s first green building rating system for hill habitats released T he 16th Green Building Congress 2018, India’s premier green buildings event organised by the Indian Green Build- ing Council (IGBC), opened with a curtain raiser session and the launch of India’s first ‘Green Building Rating System for Hills’ by Ajay Mishra, IAS, special chief sec- retary, energy, environment, forest, science & tech dept, Government of Telangana. The new IGBC rating is intended for hill cities, differentiating the sustainability needs of urban development in hills as compared to cities in the plains. Other rat- ing systems that would be launched during the Green Building Congress 2018 include the IGBC Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) and IGBC Green Resorts rating system. This would take the total number of rating systems launched by IGBC to 25. Besides Ajay Mishra, the curtain raiser was conducted in the presence of V Suresh, chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC); Anil Kumar Epur, former chairman, CII-Southern Region and C Shekhar Reddy, chairman, IGBC Hydera- bad. The curtain raiser also featured an awards ceremony where Hyderabad’s famous Botanical Gardens was recognised with an IGBC Gold rating (Green Land- scape rating). Some of the green features incorporated in the garden include 80 per cent green cover, on-site solar panels catering to 50 per cent of annual energy consumption, and a centre for biodiversity awareness. The event will continue on November 1 with the Green Building Congress inaugu- ral, which will be addressed by Hardeep Singh Puri, minister of state (independent charge), ministry of housing and urban affairs, Government of India. Key speakers at the Congress will include Lisa Bate, chair of the board, World Green Building Council; Tai Lee Siang, immediate past chair, World Green Build- ing Council; Raymond Rufino, chairman, Philippine Green Building Council; Gaur Gopal Das Prabhu, renowned motivational speaker and life coach, ISKCON; and Jaxay Shah, national president, Confederation of Real Estate Developers of India.
