more way of thinking about how the world works .”
Church , professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School , said it is important for researchers to weigh ethical perspectives as biological developments intersect with technology . Church , Harvard Ph . D . ’ 84 , also is the principal investigator for the Harvard Personal Genome Project , which aims to share genomic and health data from thousands of participants . Church initiated the program in 2005 to compile genomic , environmental , and human trait data .
Research along the frontiers of medicine and biology should reflect input from spiritual perspectives , he said .
“ Such a vast fraction of the population is religious ,” said Church . “ Their views matter quite a bit . They might help us to think out of the box .”
During subsequent discussions , participants looked at the qualities for humanness , both in macro and micro contexts . This dialogue prompted Thom to ask attendees how language makes humans extraordinary . “ How can you walk away from that and think we ’ re ‘ just a little bit better ’ than plants ?” Thom queried , rhetorically .
Ultimately , the complexity and enormity of speech suggest , “ wouldn ’ t the Creator have made us in such a way that we could understand Him ?”
The Leadership Connection , which launched in 2003 , is a partner organization of the Virginia-based Consortium of Christian Study Centers . The Cambridge Roundtable dinners provide opportunities to form meaningful connections with Harvard and MIT faculty , Thom noted .
After all , outreach to faculty requires a longer cultivation process than ministry to undergraduates . “ There are so many people we continue to have conversations with ,” said Thom . “ That ’ s not going to be overnight . It takes time .” | cu

HARVARD WIDE RECEIVER TESTIFIES ABOUT GOD ’ S GOODNESS By Catherine Elvy , Staff Writer

Over his Thanksgiving break , a Harvard College football player paused to share a powerful testimony with his hometown congregation about the divine grace that helped him to overcome physical pain and obstacles .

Despite being set back by a series of complex injuries as a freshman and sophomore , Adam Scott returned to the gridiron late in the 2016 season and even won Ivy League Player of the Week honors in November .
“ Without faith , I could not have dealt with a bunch of struggles . After so many injuries , you ’ re just like , ‘ Why me ? God , why are you letting this happen ?’” said Scott , while recalling his testimony to Elevate Love Church during his visit home to Texas . “ I have just really learned to trust in Him and know that everything He does is for a reason .”
Scott ’ s parents , Robert and Lisa Scott , co-pastor the congregation in Denton , Texas . During some of their son ’ s games , the couple can be spotted wearing matching “ Harvard Mom ” and “ Harvard Dad ” ball caps .
As for Adam Scott , he especially made it a point not to complain during the six weeks he spent motoring around in a scooter during his recovery . “ My faith definitely was what kept me grounded , kept me composed , and helped me to look up ,” said Scott ’ 19 . “ It helped me really to lean on Him for everything .”
Scott also has been open about sharing his reliance on God with a variety of media outlets , including The Boston Globe and The Harvard Crimson .
After Harvard ’ s 28-21 win over Columbia University in November , the Globe highlighted Scott ’ s turnaround – and credit to his faith – following intense physical struggles .
The 5-foot-7-inch , 165-pound wide receiver was held back by a hamstring tear as a freshman , only to suffer a Lisfranc injury to his left foot on the first day of spring ball . Scott returned to the gridiron in six months .
Then , as a sophomore , Scott tore his hamstring before the week two game against Brown .
Nonetheless , Scott returned with full force four weeks later with eight catches and 85 yards at Princeton . Then , on October 29 , he had five receptions at Dartmouth and made seven catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns on his home turf in a w i n t e r 2 0 1 7 : : c h r i s t i a n u n i o n . o r g
