At LIGHT , guest speaker Nick Brennt of The Circuit Riders spoke
about igniting a missions ’ movement and evangelistic fervor among college students . The worship night was led by missionary , songwriter , and worship leader Lindy Conant and The Circuit Riders Band , which posted a No . 1 album on Billboard ‘ s Top Christian Albums chart this summer . For the past several years , the focus of the ministry has been college campuses .
“ The conference helped me gain confidence in evangelizing to my student peers at Cornell ,” said Liu . “ I ’ ve talked to students who were extremely impacted by the event . So many surrendered their burdens to Christ and told me that they felt like they had been set free .” | cu

MINOTT ’ 91 EXHORTS CORNELL STUDENTS TO BE SALT AND LIGHT By Catherine Elvy , Staff Writer

ACornell alumnus is using his talents from the development arena as he serves on short-term missions outreaches to the Dominican Republic .

“ I would recommend everyone try their hand at missions work ,” said Michael Minott ’ 91 , a property developer and pastor in New York City .
Minott , principal of Portland Consultants , recently shared his enthusiasm for missionary service during an appearance at Cornell University . The Brooklyn , New York native explained how business expertise can bolster evangelical efforts during a discussion group on September 23 in Willard Straight Hall .
Chesterton House ( chestertonhouse . org ), a Christian study center serving the Cornell community , hosted Minott ’ s talk .
“ In order to advance the kingdom of God and plant churches , we have to come up with more creative ways to finance ,” said Minott . “ Money is reality .”
In particular , Minott highlighted for students how business training can be useful abroad , especially for wouldbe pastors who need to generate revenue to help fund practical operations . Many of Minott ’ s efforts in the Dominican Republic have centered on church planting , and he is establishing a classical Christian school .

During his visit to his alma mater , Minott , who majored in consumer economics and housing , also wanted students to know the pursuit of business education and a desire for missionary service are not mutually exclusive options .
At Portland Consultants , Minott specializes in construction management , owner ’ s representation , and project management in both rehab and new construction .
In addition , he has served as a pastor with North Shore Baptist Church in Bayside , New York since 2007 . Minott lives in East Flatbush with his wife , a native of the Dominican Republic , and their children , ages 19 , 16 , and 14 .
