MUSIC REVIEW Check out our Point of Grace article P Artist: POINT OF GRACE Album: DIRECTIONS HOME Rating: Genre: Country For Fans Of: Stephen Curtis Chapman, Nicole Nordeman Label: Word Entertainment Reviewed by: Leah St John Release Date: oint of Grace is a multi-platinum trio, consisting of members Shelley Breen, Denise Jones, and Leigh Cappillino. The all-female vocal group has been going strong for over 20 years, and in that time they have released thirteen albums (including four Christmas releases). Their fourteenth album, Directions Home: Songs We Love, Songs You Know, sees the trio sailing into uncharted territory, as it is the first album they have ever released that consists almost entirely of cover songs. “We really envisioned that this record would feel like you’re sitting around a group of amazing musicians doing a live show,” says Denise. Comprised mostly of covers that embody a country vibe, Directions Home includes new renditions of popular hit songs such as “Something in the Water” (Carrie Underwood), “Lord, I Need You” (Matt Maher), “Home” (Phillip Phillips), and “The Climb” (Miley Cyrus). Each of the three women who make up Point of Grace have been blessed with beautiful voices, and they harmonize wonderfully together. With that said, their vocals really shine on Directions Home. Also worth noting is that the group worked with multiple GRAMMY® Award winners Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs on Directions Home, whose vocals appear on the songs “Directions Home” and “Two Roads”, respectively. Musically speaking, a defining country oriented style is present on Directions Home, which is fitting to the songs that are covered, and the trio’s southern-esque vocals. Acoustic guitars are generally at the forefront of most of the songs, but percussion, strings, keys, and more are also present throughout the release. All in all, I really enjoyed listening to this country infused release from Point of Grace, and I think that they did justice to the songs that they chose to cover.
