MOVIE
REVIEW
Ark, Star Wars, and Jaws for examples of
how music can make and even define a
movie). But not so with this movie. The
music is the real deal - it’s big and gave
the movie that authentic blockbuster /
cinematic feel.
It’s also worth noting that this movie is
one of the first Christian movies that
takes full advantage of the use of green
screen and CGI F/X. Being a lower budget
movie I was dreading the fact that this
movie features a lot of CGI. But rest
assured the movie plays great and, for
the most part, it looks incredible too.
The story includes a lot of faith-based
elements - faith, forgiveness, prayer, and
redemption. Being an action movie there
is some violence - people are shot and
die, explosions destroy buildings, men
fist fight, and the threat of violence (and
danger) looms ever present throughout
the movie. Saying that, the violence is in
keeping with the theme of the movie,
and is overall pretty tame in comparison
to many Hollywood action movies. Still,
parents might want to take heed of the
movie’s PG rating. Other than the
violence, there really isn’t a whole lot of
negative content.
As a movie, Beyond the Mask has high
audience appeal. There’s action,
adventure, mystery, thrills, and
romance aplenty. In short, there’s
something for everyone. To be honest, in
a genre (Christian / faith-based) where
movies are typically heavy drama affairs,
it sure was a pleasant surprise to watch
such a fun, riveting, and action packed
movie. Even more surprising was just
how good it was!
Therefore, Beyond the Mask comes with
my highest recommendation.
