REVIEW
M
anny Cortez uproots his family
so his two daughters can go to
Westbrook High, a great
school where his late father coached
football. At this school the quirky but
brilliant teachers take the time to get to
know their students, and are passionate
about their jobs. In fact, it is one of the top
schools in the state. But to the surprise of
the teachers, students, and parents, it is
announced that Westbrook High will be
closing. In addition, the school has a new
principal, whose views on education differ
to those of the teachers.
Westbrook High is an inspirational movie
which depicts a diverse group of people , a
community that chooses to stand together
and fight for a common cause, and strive to
make a real difference.
So the teachers, students, and parents rally
together in a commendable attempt to
save their beloved school, and begin a
movement that not only inspires those
involved with Westbrook High, but other
schools too.
Although it was originally a TV Movie (an
UP Original Movie) Saving Westbrook High
exhibits high production values, which
includes a great soundtrack,
cinematography, and directing. The story is
very well written, and there is sound acting
from all involved.
Saving Westbrook High is an entertaining
and uplifting film, which tackles a reality
that a number of communities face - having
their schools close due to budget cuts and
downsizing. That being said, Saving
Saving Westbrook High is a great movie
about community, family, friendship, and
standing up for what you believe in.
A number of good messages are contained
within this movie - standing up for what
you believe in, overcoming adversity, and
working as a community. Additionally,
there is some faith content in Saving Westbrook High. There is an extended prayer
scene (it is a beautiful prayer), and a man
talks openly about his faith.
