MOVIE REVIEW Title: LET THE LION ROAR Rating: Starring: Derek Frank, Kevin Sorbo, Jason Burkey, Eric Roberts, Stephen Baldwin, John Schneider, Michael Joiner Written by: Derek Frank T here is a lie that has been left to run rampant in the church. A great deception that that altered core beliefs and theologies, and hindered the work and ministry of the church for centuries. Until now… Let The Lion Roar is an eye opening film. It lays bare one of the biggest lies the church has ever ‘bought into’ and asks the question, do we want to continue the way we are going, or do we want to change the course we are headed on? Directed by: Vanessa Frank Genre: Docudrama, Church History Running Time: 65 minutes There are many familiar faces in this film including Kevin Sorbo, Eric Roberts, Stephen Baldwin, John Schneider, Michael Joiner, Ben Davis, Shannen Fields, and Jaci Velasquez. But before you get too excited, they all play minor roles in this film and are not on-screen too long. MPAA Rating: NR Production Company: Roaring Lion Productions Released by: Roaring Lion Productions Reviewed by: Christian St John The film looks and sounds great. The picture is crystal clear (the Blu-ray looked great on my large screen TV). Likewise, the sound is clear and of particular note, the music soundtrack is good throughout. There is valuable truth shared through this film, and some of the observations made about the church made me cringe slightly. One such observation that has stuck with me was when one woman states that the church has been fractured, and that we can see this to be true in the sheer amount of Christian denominations that exist today. But it’s not all doom and gloom - the writer and presenter of this film, Derek Frank, points out that together we can stop living the lie and embrace our God ordained destiny and step into our true identity. I initially watched Let The Lion Roar with a small group, and a couple of people found it a little confusing. As such, I would recommend this film for scholars, pastors, academics, and the like, to watch and unpack, and then take the message contained in this film to their colleagues, groups, and churches. The pack I was sent to review also came with the book Escaping The Great Deception, which further helped to clarify some of the deeper issues raised in the film. The pack comes with the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film (these discs also include an hour long documentary, two featurettes, and two music videos) and the accompanying book.
