When you look at David ’ s life after he became King of Israel , he made all kinds of mistakes . I mean from murder to adultery , yet God called him after his own heart . Why ? I would like to say it was because of transparency or self-awareness . He came before God acknowledging his own shortcomings . As a leader , we must be transparent with those around us but that first begins acknowledging that though we are in a position of influence , it does not mean we have it all together . You see , we must keep in mind that leadership is a journey that takes a lifetime . We must be in a constant state of growth . Growth comes outside of our comfort zone and to most , transparency is it !
Let ’ s talk about reflection . Part of being able to lead yourself is taking time at the end of the day to reflect on the day . Whether you are a leader of your family , church , or organization , self-reflection is the key to honing in your skills and abilities . Today ’ s leaders are tasked among other accountabilities to coach and lead their teams to success . Often a leader ’ s schedule is full of them pouring into others . This is why reflection is necessary . It gives you an opportunity to look back on your day to evaluate how you served and added value to others . You can see opportunities where you can lead more effectively . It also allows you to miss opportunities that you can capitalize on in the future or for the most part the next day .
