Arrupe Chamber
Ensemble (Mr. Rossi)
Aaryan Stewart, Ronald King and
Ben King put their skills to play
Our violinists in the Arrupe
Chamber Ensemble have begun
the first steps towards beautiful
music. Whether it’s their second
year - like Ben King and Indya
Negron –or their first time
holding a violin - like Marlene
Aviles and Ronald King everyone is learning much and
progressing wonderfully. Our
instructor – Ms. Naiomy Vega
– is now using her five – plus
years of experience to help our
students learn our first full song.
All this work is building
up to our 2014 Spring
Concert. Stay “tuned” for
more details!
Remix (Mr. Prijatel)
Remix has been a small group
this season, but the energy has
more than made up for it. The
Remix kids have been busy with
all kinds of projects focusing on
their creative thinking and
problem solving. They traveled
around the school solving clues
for our photo scavenger hunt and
learned about simple machines
while building their own, working
mini-catapults. Angeline Torres
displayed some impressive
management skills while making
three beanbag balls with her high
school partners and Marcellous
(Mr. Rossi and Ms. Mirando)
The Lego Robotics team participated in a competition at Hathaway
Brown on Saturday, December 7 and represented Arrupe well

Lego Robotics (Mr. Mulholland and Mr. Becker)
We started our program off with “match relays” where our
newly matched big and little pairs worked together to compete in relay races. Since then, our bigs and littles worked
on improving their healthy habits by participating in
“Fitness Bingo” and a “Healthy Food Competition.” They
also went apple picking at Heavenly Hills Farm and made
Halloween ghost towns. During our hobby sharing day,
Ileiana Marcano’s big, Kirsten Greer, taught her to play
golf and DeAndre Bennett was able to successfully drop
an egg from the second floor of Arrupe with the help of his
big, Brendan Wagner!
We ushered in this season of Lego Robotics by building our own copy
of the competition’s mission field - a difficult task tackled
skillfully by Othniel Quinones, our team’s fastest builder. This year,
the team has to program robots to accomplish a variety of tasks
associated with natural disaster safety. Leading the charge is the very
ambitious and determined programmer, Casey Meinecke. And on the
less robotic side of things, the team interviewed the director of
emergency management at University Hospital to get a better grip on
disaster preparedness.
