List highlights or significant accomplishments of this Christian
Service Initiative for the 2013-2014 academic year.
6 week implementation of a bullying awareness and advocacy program
Students (High school and participants) developed and lead “Anti-Bullying Awareness Event” for
younger Arrupe participants
Upcycle Art - students participated in street clean up and created art from recycled materials
Disability Awareness – Participants learn about different disabilities and Ableism
Field Trip – Bowling with Youth Challenge, a recreational program for children with physical
disabilities, at Bay Lanes. Attended Cleveland Cavaliers game.
High School: Hopes and Fears – participants interview high school volunteers and ask questions
about academics, the college process, extracurricular activities and social pressures in high school
High School Pen Pals – participants write letters to high school students at the schools they are
attending next year or hope to attend in two years
Healthy Habits – Nutritionist lead participants in a healthy iron chef competition and St. Ignatius
Soccer Coach, Mr. McLaughlin, lead a soccer clinic
Fishbowl Questions – Weekly thematic questions for small group discussions at program beginning
Weekly Power of Choice – Decision making and behavior expectations based on respect, attitude
and effort
Power of Choice Cavaliers Challenge – four weeks to earn a field trip to the Cavs game
Each student as a portfolio of worksheets/activities completed from year
