MMost immigrants coming to America have an image in their minds of what the “American dream” must look like: a modest house, steady job, equality and liberty for all. Unfortunately, this is not the America that most of its citizens know and for some Americans, there are horrors buried within the United States that even their fellow Americans are not aware of.
Like a family, America has secrets that it does not want others to know about. In some ways, America has as much “dirty laundry” to air as some third world countries… Most people are aware of the oppression and cruel and heinous behavior against women that occurs in countries like India but did you know that common third world crimes such human trafficking occur in America as well?
In America, about 80% of all human trafficking involves sexual exploitation, while the other 20% involves hard labor. According to the U.S. State Department, about 18,000 people are trafficked into the United States every year (15% of those people being brought into Texas).
