With the engine woes that hamstrung his opening round stint at Phillip Island, Chris Gidnery returned to the point-and-squirt confines of Sandown on a mission.

Qualifying was cut short due to a red flag incident; brought about by the stranded Midget of Greg Hewson (a broken differential being the culprit), but with the time remaining, Chris Gidney was able to manufacture a lap good enough for three flying laps and netting a superb second row start.

Gidney’s fourth place put him first of the normally aspirated 4 cylinder cars, but he knew he would have a fight on his hands on the long straights at Sandown.

A solid start in race one saw Gidney consolidate his position with a fifth place finish behind the Japanese-powered Midget of Jim Robertson and ahead of the Class A LE 500 MGF of Vince Gucciardo.

The top five finish was capped off with another class win on the back of his opening round Phillip Island performance.

Saturday however, was a mixed bag, with disaster striking in in Race two when a lock-up from Gucciardo at turn one saw the MGF driver spinning into the outfield.

Already committed to the exit, Gidney took to the grass to avoid a collision, but centrifugal force had other ideas as the pair glanced one another on the exit of the corner.

Both drivers emerged unscathed from the incident, with Gidney fortunate to take another class victory despite finishing back in 12th and a scramble to check for any structural damage.
